The Apex Farmers Organisation of Ghana on Friday commended the government, United Nations agencies, donor community, institutions and individuals for their donations and interventions to the flood victims in parts of the country. A statement signed by Alhaji Nashiru Kadri and Mr Patrick A. Apullah, President and General Secretary respectively of the organisation, appealed to potential donors to donate farm inputs and building materials to the affected farmers. The organisation also appealed to institutions and organisations that had supported farmers' operations financially in the affected areas to consider rescheduling their debts. They should also institute favourable support packages for future farming activities to enhance the ability of the farmers to service their debts. The statement appealed to the government to give priority to capable consultants and contractors from the affected areas in its reconstruction activities so that monies released for the projects would "re-circulate" within the areas and thus raise income levels of the people. As regards individual households, the statement suggested that "pozolana" cement should be supplied to landlords and landladies because the product is cheaper and more durable. Source: GNA
