The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to vet aspirants for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Parliamentary, seat which became vacant following the death of Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko.
Among the front-runners for the NPP primaries is the second son of former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
Edward Agyekum Kufuor; businessman and actor, has been silent in the political space of the republic but told the Media on Sunday while filing his nomination that the time is nigh for him to step in the waters that his father once trod.
“I have realised that the best way to bring about change is by stepping up because if you are not part of the solution then you are part of the problem,” he said.
Speaking to the media after submitting his forms, Mr. Agyekum said he has had the opportunity to learn from his father, the former President and with his insight, he will deliver on his mandate.
“In fact look at our track record, consider what NPP has done for this constituency and what the late Agyarko also achieved. Looking at all this work done why won’t it be possible for the NPP to retain the seat,” he added.
Mr. Kufuor faces opposition from Assembly Member for Legon Electoral Area; Madam Victoria Esinam Ansah Offei, Deputy Chief Executive of the National Youth Authority; Mr. Richard Joojo Obeng, and Samuel Amankwah, a former constituency youth organiser of the constituency.
According to some reports, nomination forms were picked for Lydia Agyarko Alhassan, a widow of the late MP.
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is also lacing its boots to contest for the seat, contrary to suggestions from one of their own not to do so.
