The government is promoting Public, Private Partnership (PPP) in the initiation and execution of projects under a programme, "Integrated Socio-Economic Infrastructure and service with both forward and backward linkages".
This is in line with the government's policy of making the private sector "the engine of growth".
Mrs Elizabeth Abena Nkrumah, Social Investment Fund (SIF) Zonal Co-ordinator for Central and Western Regions, said under it all projects under the Urban Poverty Reduction Project (UPRP) would be supported with community business and development plans incorporating the needs of both the public and the private sectors.
Mrs Nkrumah was addressing private sector operators at Apam, one of the 12 selected towns under the UPRP, an African Development Bank (ADB) intervention to reduce poverty.
It is expected that 600 small-scale industries would be helped to develop into medium scale entrepreneurs to employ others.
The meeting, which was attended by market women, fishermen, members of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), artisans, hair dressers, dressmakers and others was to know their needs for assistance.
Earlier the SIF Zonal Co-ordinator had met Assembly Members from Apam.
Mrs Nkrumah explained that though the district or municipal assemblies had their own development plans there was the need to integrate them with the community business and development plans.
She said a computer laboratory owned by a private person school project could be attached to a school project for students to get ICT lessons.
