The newly elected New Patriotic Party (NPP) legislator for Ayawaso West Wuogon has donated ¢5000 to offset the hospital bills of some of the victims of last Thursday’s by-election shooting.
Lydia Seyram Alhasan who was at the 37 Military Hospital to visit the victims said the incident was unfortunate.
She was accompanied by the Deputy Information Minister, Pius Enam Hadzide and the NPP Youth Organiser, Sammy Awuku and other members of the party.
“In my capacity as the MP for the area, it is my duty to come through here and visit the injured…I regret the incident and I am happy there is a committee in place to investigate what happened,” she told Joy News’ Parker Wilson, Wednesday.
“I urge the police to work hard and get to the bottom of this. They should work without fear or favour,” she said.
Violence ensued when masked men who are alleged to have fired gunshot and even slapped Ningo-Prampram MP Samuel George last week during a by-election in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency.
The men, dressed in black polo shirts and khaki trousers stormed the La Bawaleshie Primary School polling station where voting was ongoing to elect a new MP following the death of Kyeremanteng Agyarko.
What triggered gunshots has not been established yet, however, at least six people sustained gunshot wounds with a total of 10 others sustaining various degrees of injury.
The disgusted MP, who was sworn in on Tuesday amid controversy from the Minority NDC members, said such a simple democratic exercise should not have degenerated into such absurdity.
“We shouldn’t have gone to this extent,” she said.
