Ex Ghana player Mohammed Gargo has made a startling revelation to Joy Sports which suggests that he, Sam Johnson and Augustine Ahinful could have played for Ghana at the Germany 2006 World Cup but for their refusal to pay monies to some persons.
The ex Udinese midfielder alleged that he and his two other colleagues (Johnson and Ahinful) were invited to play for Ghana following the successful qualification campaign for Ghana's first appearance at the Mundial but were shocked with demands for money by some unnamed persons for money before they could make the final squad.
Gargo, a former Coach of RTU, who was speaking on last Saturday's Joy Sports Link said he had to abandon the idea of playing in Germany 2006 because he felt it was wrong.
“The GFA called myself, Augustine Ahinful and Sam Johnson and told us they were preparing our invitation to come and join the Black stars squad for the World Cup in 2006. We came down and the story turned around to be that we have to see some people at the FA to issue some “envelopes”, Mohammed Gargo told Nathaniel Attoh on Saturday's Joy Sport Link on Joy FM.
“I believe we have served Ghana enough that one must not pay money to get an opportunity to represent the country at that stage,
“I’m not sure the officials of the GFA or the technical handlers of the Black Stars then were aware of this. and i eventually realised that the person engaging in this did not even have any influence in the technical team."
“We the players discussed it amongst ourselves and realized we just have to let it go because and not give them the chance to start this 'black' business if I may call it.”
According to Mohammed Gargo the Black Stars could have gone past the second round of the 2006 World Cup if he and his two other colleagues were included in the squad.
