The National Executive Council of the Association of Road Contractors has sent a goodwill message to President John Agyekum Kufuor, following his road accident last week and reiterated calls for a thorough investigation into the incident."We join our compatriots in asking the security agencies to conduct thorough and in-depth investigations into the accident and even institute a high-powered enquiry into the accident with a view to putting up measures to forestall any future occurrence," the Council said in a statement signed by its National Chairman, Mr J. Twumasi-Mensah.It said the news of the accident came to them as a surprise because it was at a time the President was marshalling the country's human, economic, social and all relevant resources towards effective and efficient governance to improve the lot of Ghanaians."We take consolation from the fact that all along, the Almighty God has been on your side, and was indeed, on your side at the very moment of the accident and saved you from what could probably have resulted in a fatality."The Council expressed its sympathy to the president's driver who sustained injury and was admitted at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra. It thanked the government for "the massive assistance and support" it had given to the road sector since it came to power in 2001.The statement mentioned specifically the procurement of 32 million dollars worth of Volvo construction equipment for road contractors in 2004 through the Ministry of Transportation and financed by the National Investment Bank.Source: GNA
