The Ghana Police Service has issued instructions to its personnel to use appropriate and legitimate force levels to protect themselves. The officers have been told to avoid being maimed and killed. The instruction comes in the light of the killings of some policemen in various parts of the country in the past week. One policeman was killed by a mob in the Anlo chietaincy clashes, two others were murdered under gruesome circumstances in Accra and Kwahu Praso in the Eastern region.Another policeman was killed when he was hit by a stray bullet fired by his colleague during the arrest of wee smokers at a boat yard in Winneba. While the Police Service says the deaths are unfortunate, police officials maintain that their men will continue to perform their constitutional duties despite the threats.
