The first round of the US Open at Merion Golf Club has been suspended due to dangerous weather conditions after less than two hours of play.England's Ian Poulter had birdied his opening three holes to be three-under and take a one shot lead from Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts (seven holes), American Charley Hoffman (two holes) and South Africans Tim Clark (four holes) and Charl Schwartzel (four holes) who are all at two under par.Jason Day and Aaron Baddeley were the only Australians to get any golf in with Day tied 12th after opening with two pars. The Queenslander had birdie chances of 18 and 12 feet but was unable to convert. Baddeley bogeyed two of three holes to be two-over in a tie for 43rd.The delay means 103 of the 156-man field are yet to start or finish a hole.Adam Scott was due to start his assault in the afternoon wave with Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy but may not yet get to play as a huge storm approaches the course. They will certainly be hard pressed to complete a full round.Geoff Ogilvy, Marc Leishman, Marcus Fraser, John Senden, Mathew Goggin and Alistair Presnell were also due out in the afternoon wave
