Blankson Kofi Eshun, a pastor who defrauded five persons has been jailed seven years in hard labour by a circuit court at Asamankese.
Eshun pleaded guilty to five counts of making false representation and succeeding in obtaining various sums of money and in one case, provisions, when at the time of making the statements he knew that they were false.
Police Chief Inspector G.D. Bruce told the court that Eshun, who lived at Kuntu near Saltpond in August last year, travelled to Akyem Nkwantanang where he defrauded the five persons.
The prosecutor said Eshun sent his pregnant wife to a prophetess at Nkwantanang for spiritual healing because she often experienced miscarriages when pregnant.
In November 2006, the pastor collected ¢1.2 million from the prophetess to secure her a building plot at Asamankese.
He also collected ¢6.3 million, ¢6 million and ¢1.150 million from complainants Phillip Baako, Kwaku Kyei and K. Amoah respectively to secure for them United Kingdom visas.
Eshun then collected provisions worth ¢300,000 from one Martha Lokko and promised to pay her later.
After collecting the money and provisions, the accused bolted and was not seen again until November 13 this year, when luck eluded him and he was arrested at Agona Swedru.
