Ghana’s fairytale story would continue to unfold later today at Galatasaray’s Turk Telekom Arena when the Black Satellites take on 2007 Semi-finalists Chile at the quarter final stage of the competition.
The Satellites were literally on the verge of exiting the group phase of the competition after losing her first two games to Spain and France respectively but a result against the United States of America coupled with other results going their way saw the side advance to the Round of 16 stage of the competition.
As if by design, the side were trailing 2-1 the Quinta A Seleccao by 2-1 with only eleven minutes of play before substitutes Michael Anaba and Richmond Boakye Yiadom turned the game on its head with two late goals to win the game. Such was the dominance of the Portuguese in the group phase that they were highly tipped to crash a wandering Satellites side that had only gate crushed the knock out phase. Divine intervention if you like. It is no wonder that they have the ever religious and Charismatic Sellas Tetteh as their manager.
Chile on the other hand mastered the required 4 points from the group stages against England and Egypt before losing out to the talented Iraqi side who have surprised all and sundry with their sublime skills and their approach to the game to qualify for the knock out phase.
Their Round of 16 clash against Croatia saw the Chileans put up their best performance of the competition with two clinical strikes against the European side. That has clearly got the huge Chilean Media presence here buzzing with belief that they could replicate their form of Canada 2007 where they made it to the semi-final stage only to be thrashed 3-0 by Argentina.
In player Nicolas Castillo, La Rojita do have a player whose presence makes it extremely improbable that the net will remain untroubled in Istanbul’s Ali Sami Yen Stadium. With a goal in each of his three appearances thus far, Castillo is thriving in the centre of Chile’s three-man attack and will be out to maintain his 100 per cent record against a Ghana defence that has conceded seven times in four matches.
Star midfield player Sebastian Martinez is suspended for this game but the Ghanaian defence, notorious for conceding goals in all four games should be extremely. Two teams out to prove a point take to the Turk Telekom Arena with only a win on their mind.
Probable Starting X1:
Ghana-Antwi,Nketiah,Baba Rahman,Lartey,Larweh,Seidu Salifu,Odjer,Aboagye,Assifuah,Boakye-Yiadom,Acheampong.
Chile-Melo,Campos,Lichnovsky,Robles,Laremas,Baeza,Fuentes,Henrique,Rabello,Cuevas,Castillo.
