The striker will not join the club for their week-long trip to Portugal due to a reported conflict with the Magpies over their shirt sponsorship deal with a money-lending company
Newcastle United have confirmed that striker Papiss Cisse has been left out of the club's pre-season tour squad heading for Portugal.
Alan Pardew has named a 23-man squad for the trip, where they will face Rio Ave and Pacos de Ferreira on Saturday and Tuesday, but the Senegal international will not travel with the rest of the team.
The striker, who is Muslim, is reportedly in conflict with the club over their shirt sponsorship deal with money-lending company Wonga and is believed to be unwilling to wear a branded shirt.
The company's association with the club requires all players to wear training gear and match day shirts with the logo, but Cisse believes doing so would go against his religious beliefs.
The 28-year-old has offered to wear a shirt without the logo or one bearing the name of a charity, but Newcastle have thus far rejected that approach.
Cisse joined the club from Freiburg in January 2012 for a fee in the region of £9 million and has gone on to score 26 times for the Magpies.
