Youth development and supporters mobilization will feature prominently in management's plans for the 2013/2014 season, asantekotokosc.com has gathered.
Aside the mainstream resolve to successfully defend the Premier League title, participate in the CAF Champions League, continue the various construction projects at Adako Jachie, management's prime focus will be to build and develop appropriate structures for youth football while identifying and implementing workable plans to utilize the club's huge support base.
This came to light following a meeting in Kumasi, between Executive Chairman, Dr. K. K. Sarpong and members of the communication team, headed by Dr. Ernest Opoku.
Briefing Kotoko Express , Dr. Opoku observed that youth development was critical to the future of Kotoko and at the time that the Kotoko-Sunderland partnership was focusing more on raising a functional academy side, management could not have chosen a better plan.
"This is something that sits at the heart of our agreement with Sunderland. We are making great strides there but a lot still has to be done in that area. It is one critical area hence the need to pay utmost attention to it" he stated.
Details of what will be done to give proper meaning to Kotoko's youth development programme next season are yet to emerge. The plan is however being touted within close management circles as "comprehensive, forward-looking and practical".
On supporters’ mobilisation, Kotoko Express gathered that the situation where not much, in terms of organization and revenue, were being gleaned from the huge support base is a source of worry to management. There are clear signs that funds from gate proceeds continue to decline.
While a part of the supporters' mobilisation programme will tackle matters related to the Circles and how to make them active and relevant, another part will look at drafting young people in schools and colleges into the club's supporters' fold like it has been done in Sunyani.
"We will be getting to the schools, colleges and such places before targeting our communities in a bid to mobilise more support" said Kotoko's spokesman.
