The World Bank is collaborating with stakeholders to train chiefs in judicial administration in order to bring justice to the doorsteps of the people, Vice-President Alhaji Aliu Mahama made this known at Wa on Thursday.He said the programme, which was part of national efforts to fine-tune the judicial process would expose the chiefs to training in process adjudication.Vice-President Mahama made the announcement when he interacted with members of the Upper West Regional House of Chiefs as part of a two-day official visit to the region, where he was the guest of Honour at this year's National Farmers' day.He said chiefs had a role to play in the governance of the country.Vice-President Mahama asked the chiefs to be proactive in seeking for the development of their localities and not remain as armed-chair leaders waiting for help to fall from above.He said widespread poverty in the North called for chiefs who would go all out to pursue development to reverse the situation.Vice-President Mahama said government was emphasizing on educational projects in the region hence the commencement of a number of school upgrading projects comprising the University of Development Studies, Wa Polytechnic and Lawra Secondary School.He expressed dissatisfaction about poor road network in the area and said government had therefore embarked on rehabilitating Jirapa-Tumu-Navrongo roads to activate economic activities.Vice-President Mahama said the distance of roads earmarked for tarring had been extended from five kilometres to 20 kilometres.Touching on his bid to be the flag bearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party, he asked the chiefs to give him the needed support since they are his source of strength.Vice-President Mahama said he was the most experienced and marketable candidate of the NPP who could beat the National Democratic Congress candidate Professor John Atta Mills in "Election 2008'Source: GNA
