Mr John Kwesi Yankeym, a 56-year-old farmer from Jukwa, was on Friday declared the best district farmer in the Twifo-Heman-Lower-Denkyira during the 23rd district farmers and fishermen's day held at Twifo-Nkohunoho.
He took home a bicycle, irrigation pumping and spraying machines, radio cassette player, one-and-half piece of cloth, wall clock, 10 cutlasses, three pairs of Wellington boots, six bars of key soap, a lantern and certificate.
In all 19 farmers including two technical staff of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture were honoured and were given prizes including spraying machines radio cassette players, wall clocks, bicycles, Wellington boots and certificates.
Mr Abraham Odoom, a Deputy Minister of Health who presented the awards, congratulated the awards winners in the district for their hard work and contribution to the growth of agriculture in the district.
He appealed to them to put into practice technical advice given to them by agricultural extension officers to improve upon their production.
Mr Samuel Agyeibie Kessie, the District chief Executive, appealed to the people in the district, especially farmers who have not registered with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), to do so.
He told them to take advantage of the school feeding programme and capitation grant to send their children to school.
Mr Emmanuel Acquaye, the District Director of MOFA, appealed to farmers who have benefited from various inputs and loans schemes to pay back.
Mr Acquaye commended Ghana Rubber Estate Limited, Kakum Rural and Twifo Rural banks for supporting the day.
