Liverpool won the champions league on Saturday for the 6th time to become the most successful club in England, in the champions league and third most successful club in Europe behind Real Madrid (13 titles) and AC Milan (7 titles).
It was an all English final or better still two clubs from the same country finals.
Let's take into perspective the finals between clubs from the same country.
In 1999/2000 Real Madrid conquered Europe by beating Valencia CF 3-0 to win the trophy.
Associazione Calcio Milan (A.C Milan) in 2002/2003 beat Juventus on penalties after 0-0 draw to lift the trophy.
In 2007/2008 Manchester United beat Chelsea on penalties after 1-1 draw to clinch the Cup.
2012/2013 season saw Bayern Munich beat Borussia Dortmund 2 goals to 1 to win the trophy.
In 2013/2014 Real Madrid beat Atletico Madrid 4-1 after extra time to the ultimate.
Real Madrid in 2015/2016 beat Atletico Madrid on penalties after 1-1 draw to lift the trophy.
And in this season (2018/2019), Liverpool clinched the trophy by beating Tottenham Hotspurs 2-0.
With regard to historical antecedents, it can be concluded by saying that champions league finals involving clubs from the same country are won by the bigger club in that country as per the statistics and records above.
