Government says contrary to claims that the economy had dipped, its reports rather suggest that measures instituted to address challenges the economy faced, are yielding some positive results.
According to Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Deputy Information and Media Relations Minister; "Contrary to the story that is being peddled out there ... that the economy is so disastrous, it is in a state of ramshackle, I think that, it is not so.
"The economy is doing well," Mr. Murtala Mohammed told journalists Thursday, during the Daily Briefing at the Flagstaff House.
"The extent to which we have... external reserves of this nation... from August 20th 2010 which can take three months import cover...We rose from four point something billion to five point seven billion within that period. So it's a clear manifestation that such policy interventions are yielding some positive results," he stated.
The Deputy Minister further announced that President John Mahama will have another retreat with his ministers and other government officials at the Peduase Lodge in the Eastern Region this weekend.
The meeting which is scheduled to come off this Friday, August 23, is the second in a month.
It will afford the president and his appointees the opportunity to review policy interventions put in place by government to deal with some challenges the economy faced from 2009.
Mr. Murtala Mohammed said each sector and ministry will have the opportunity to share ideas regarding the successes and the challenges they faced in implementing the 2013 budget.
According to Deputy Information Minister, the retreat will also start preparations toward the 2014 budget.
