The Gomoa West District Chief Executive Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah has cut sod for work to begin on a 200-million Ghana Cedi two-storey office complex for the chief fisherman at Apam.
The office complex would include a conference room and a first aid centre.
The newly established Apam Beach Committee (Apofo Manfo), in collaboration with the Apam Landing Beach Committee, which is responsible for the sale of premix fuel as well as the Apam Town Council are undertaking the construction of the office complex with voluntary donations by fishermen and profits from the sale of premix fuel.
According to Mr Aidoo-Mensah, the project has been long overdue as Apam is one of the leading fishing communities in the country.
He commended the Apam Beach Committee for being able to generate funds within a short time for the project and assured of the assembly's supports for the project. He appealed to fishermen to help the committee make the project a reality.
The DCE said the Beach Committee has enacted a bye-law to guide the behavior of people at the beach and appealed to all to abide by it.
Mr Aidoo-Mensah also appealed to fishermen to give due respect to members of the committee and to continue to donate more to the project.
Nana Kobena Caiquo, Chief Fisherman, assured the people that the Committee would ensure that every pesewa meant for the project would be accounted for.
The DCE on behalf of the Assembly donated 50 bags of cement for the start of the building which is expected to be completed within 18 months.
