The Concerned Vulcanisers Association of Ghana, has appealed to National Road Safety Commission to extend the ban on the use of sub-standard tyres, which is due this month.
The association said even though its outfit was not consulted for the impending ban, it met and discussed relevant issues on the subject matter and has embodied its views into a memorandum to the Commission.
A statement signed by Basiru Karimu Bukorba, General Secretary of the Association and copied to the Ghana News Agency said it support any move to ensure road safety in the country.
It said standard tyres cannot be determined by the age of the tyre and the inscription written on it.
The statement said the Road Traffic Regulation 62, sub-section (2) said: “A person shall not fit a tyre on a motor vehicle or a trailer if the tyre is more than four years old, counting from the date of manufacturing.”
It said the Commission’s education on road safety is to pave way for the regulation to be put into law.
The statement said the association is ready for an invitation to discuss its concerns before the implementation of the ban.
