A 39-year-old man is angry with his wife for continuously aborting pregnancies because he has not done church wedding for her.
Anthony Savor, a taxi driver, told Adom News he done the customary wedding [called engagement in Ghana] and he has been living together with his wife, Mavis Appiah, a caterer for the past four years.
According to him the Mavis came into the marriage with two children from her previous marriage and he accepted them as his own, but she had since refused to give birth for him.
Savor said his wife has so far aborted three pregnancies with the help of one Ward Assistant, whose name was only given as Zita, and works at one of Ghana’s biggest government hospitals.
He said the Zita herself is pregnant so he is at a loss why she would be so wicked to terminate someone else’s pregnancy.
“This time round I warned her [Zita] but she did not pay heed and what she did led to my wife being admitted at the Korle Teaching Hospital due to excessive bleeding and I had to pay GHC1,200 as her medical bills,” he lamented.
Savor said he is fed up with the three abortions his wife committed and he is not ready for a fourth one so he will divorce her because he does not have the funds for church wedding.
“I will take her to her parents and perform the divorce rites,” he said.
Meanwhile, legal practitioner Morris Ampaw said both Savor’s wife (Mavis) and the Ward Assistant (Zita) must be arrested.
Lawyer Ampaw said abortion is illegal, adding that the lady’s demand for church wedding is untenable because customary marriage is also recognized under the laws of the country.
