As part of their objective to improve the lives of people living in the Adabraka community, where Accra Brewery Limited and Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL) operate, the two companies on September 7, 2013 organised a free medical screening locals there.
Accra Brewery Limited has been in partnership with GCGL to conduct this medical screening for the Adabraka community for the past five years. The exercise, which is an annual event initiated in 2005 by GCGL, was patronised by hundreds of residents who enjoyed free dental treatment, and general medical treatment. Those with serious health conditions were referred to various hospitals.
Residents under age 18 and over 70 years were also freely signed on the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
Speaking at the event, Gregory Metcalf, MD of Accra Brewery, said, “It is a mark of good neighbourliness that we demonstrate how much we care about the neighbourhood in which we have operated for the past 82-years."
"We are committed in several ways to the development and the sustainability of the communities in which we operate. It is our way of supporting government’s efforts whilst at the same time ensuring the sustainability of our business. We know that health is an essential component in the development of every community and that is why it is a key plank of our community investment efforts to improve the quality of life for local people to help us build healthy relationships with our communities, consumers and our employees. This is why every year we find a way to support the health sector with free health screening here in Adabraka and also in Agbogbloshie and the donation of medical equipment to health facilities.”
He added that “We will continue to support and actively participate in the sustainable development of our communities in all ways possible. Our appreciation goes to our partner in this exercise, Graphic Communications Group Limited, the medical personnel and our sister company, Voltic (GH) Limited, for donating natural mineral water to refresh all of the participants.”
During the health screening, Mr. Kenneth Ashigbey, Managing Director of Graphic Communications Group Limited said the activity was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility geared towards national development.
He said plans were afoot to expand the number of schools at Adabraka that were regularly supplied free copies of the Junior Graphic to enhance teaching and learning .
“Graphic is grateful to you and your people for creating a peaceful atmosphere for us to do business here. The part we play in bringing this free healthcare to you therefore is our token expression of thanks to you for being our kind host,” he added.
Accra Brewery’s Corporate Social Investment policy amongst other goals, aims at improving the quality of life of local residents. Within its 82-years of operation, the company has provided deprived communities all over the country with medical equipment, potable water and educational facilities as well as other amenities.
