The Provost of the College of Art and Social Sciences (CASS) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Professor Dr. Daniel Buor, has cited the decline of moral standards as the main reason for the current spate of corruption and indiscipline that has pervaded the Ghanaian society. Corruption and indiscipline, he said, bothered on morality and that there was the need for stakeholders to partner government in inculcating good moral values into the citizenry for effective use and utilization of state resources. Prof. Dr. Buor was speaking at the maiden matriculation ceremony of the University College of Management Studies (UCOMS) in Kumasi on Friday. In all, 96 students were admitted into the College to pursue Bachelor of Science Programmes in Banking and Finance, Procurement and Supply Chain Management, Human Resource Management and Applied Accounting. The CASS Provost observed that the enhanced development of every nation depended on the moral uprightness of her professionals and technocrats, noting that it was high time Ghanaian professionals resolved to be disciplined to enable them to stand up to the challenges that may come their way in the performance of their duties. He urged government to endeavour to resource private universities to enhance their infrastructural development and academic excellence for the benefit of the nation. Prof. Buor further charged the universities to organize regular workshops, seminars and refresher courses for their staff to develop their skills and capacity for effective teaching and learning in these institutions. Dr. Sazrar Opata, Chairman of the Board of Management of UCOMS, announced that the College would soon open a branch in Nigeria in line with their vision to reach out to a wider community. He said they were also liaising with the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel to ensure that students who passed out of UCOMS could further their Masters Degree Programmes in that institution to upgrade their skills.Source: GNA
