The Principal of the E.P. University College, Greenhill Campus at Peki in the Volta Region, Rev. Dr Seth Agidi, has called on the government, corporate institutions and individuals to extend their support to newly established private accredited universities to ensure their sustenance.
He noted that the private universities were easing the student admission burden on the public universities and contributing to the human resource development of the country.
Dr Agidi was speaking at the maiden fund-raising dinner at Ho to solicit support for the E.P. University College. Admission to the university, the first in the Volta Region, is in progress for commencement of lectures in February 2008.
Dr Agidi, who is also a member of the University's fund-raising committee, appealed to groups and individual members of the E.P. Church as well as past students of the church's educational institutions who were in active employment, to support in laying a firm foundation for the university.
The President of the E.P. University College, Mr Walter Blege, described the institution as 'unique' considering the innovative programmes it would offer Ghanaians and the international community.
He noted that campuses of the university would be sited across the entire Volta Region and, therefore, called on all residents and citizens in the region to rally behind the fund-raising drive.
The Chairman of the university's fundraising committee, Mr Nat Dzade, said the fund-raising drive would be extended to other parts of the country.
Present at the ceremony were the Moderator of the E.P. Church, Rt. Rev. Dr Livingstone Buama, and other eminent citizens of Volta Region.
