“We are deeply moved to be here,” she told the Parliament.
Speaker Pelosi is in Ghana with a U.S. congressional delegation for high-level talks and a commemoration of the 400the anniversary of the slave trade.
Her delegation, which was received on Sunday by the Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Prof. Mike Oquaye include the House Majority Whip, James Clyburn, Congressional Black Caucus chairwoman, Karen Bass, and House representatives Barbara Lee and John Lewis.
In a speech which extolled the virtues of relations between Ghana and the United States, she said Ghana is a shining star on the African continent.
As a result, American continues to look up to Ghana for partnership in areas of security and development.
Touching on education, she made a strong case for female education.
In her words “when a woman succeeds the world succeeds.”
On health care, she said “every person must have access to basic healthcare. People must live healthy and fulfilling lives.”
This, she said, has a lot to do with achieving environmental justice.
According to her, taking good care of the environment leads to prosperity.
“The planet is God’s creation and we have a moral responsibility to protect it”.
In conclusion, she “thanked the people of Ghana on behalf of the world.”
Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament Prof. Mike Oquaye described the speech as inspiring.
