As a resident of Accra’s traffic-zone, Spintex road, I’m always in a dilemma after 10 hours of hard work.
Named among the top seven traffic-prone areas in Accra, my strategy every day is to look for alternative routes to avoid sitting for another 3 to 4 hours in a rickety trotro [commercial bus].
When I feel like pampering myself, I just pulled out my smartphone, push a button and wait for the car to come to pick me in spite of my meagre salary.
But I got the humiliation of my life when the trip ended. The bill, which was GH₵30, like a missile fired from North Korea to the USA, was GH₵80.
Eish!!!, Jesus how I’m I going to pay; the last money I had was GH₵40 intending to use the GH₵10 for transportation to work.
Lucky for me, my mum was at home so she bailed me out. After this experience, I vowed never to pick any of the ride-hailing services.
A few weeks later, a friend of mine, Kofi told me about this new ride-hailing service, Yango and I quickly got a flashback of my awful experience.
He offered to pay for the service just for me to believe because he wanted to be sure he did not cheat the driver who took him just GH₵20 for plying the same Spintex traffic-zone I paid GH₵80 for.
I took up the challenge one Wednesday evening after work. One unique feature about Yango is that, you can order a ride for anyone so my friend did it and it came straight to my office.
To my surprise, a luxury car with Yango logo pulled up. At once, I knew I was in for a big treat because the vehicle was fully air-conditioned.
Even with the high price of fuel, the air condition was on till I got to my final destination.
Halfway into the journey, I intentionally asked the driver to turn off the air-condition since we were in traffic but he replied: “madam feel free; it’s part of the Yango service.” I was like wow, this is awesome.
When I got home and checked my bill, I was shocked. My friend paid just GH₵20. Compared to other ride-hailing services, Yango is far better and very economical. You don’t have to haggle with taxi drivers over the price if you use this ride-sharing app.
Yango is surely me ride or die.
