A 17-year-old Junior High School student, Master Ernest Apau jnr, got drowned in a swimming pool at the Vision Hotel in Berekum in the Brong Ahafo Region on Christmas Day.
Chief Superintendent Lord Obeng Mensah, Berekum Police Divisional Commander, told the Ghana News Agency on phone that the management of the hotel organized an annual party for children in the area.
He said the deceased, a second year student of the Demonstration Junior High School at Berekum had gone to the hotel with friends, but got drowned whilst swimming in the pool.
The deceased's friends called for help when they realized their colleague's life was in danger and people around brought him out of the water, but in a very weak condition.
Chief Superintendent Mensah said Master Apau was rushed to the Holy Family Hospital but was declared dead on arrival and the body had since been released to his family for burial after an autopsy.
He said the manager of the hotel had been invited by the police to assist in investigations.
The Police Commander said organizers of such programmes should seek police assistance for adequate protection, especially in case of children.Source: GNA
