The Health Ministry would from next year introduce the use of mobile pregnancy scanning machines in rural communities.
This is as part of efforts to improve maternal health and prevent deaths during child birth in the rural areas.
Health Minister, Sherry Aryeetey disclosed this at a press soirée in Accra Monday.
“Pregnant women will have access to scanning even in the rural areas when we distribute the portable scanning machines”.
She said training of rural health practitioners in the use of such devices will also begin early next year.
The Health Minister indicated that the innovation will help detect pregnancy complications in order to save lives of expectant mothers.
She noted that the portable pregnancy scanning machines use solar energy so it can work in areas without electricity.
Sherry Aryeetey said this innovation is part of the Ministry’s plan to reduce maternal mortality to the barest minimum.
