President of Rotary Club, Sunyani East, Eric Adu-Gyamfi, has urged stakeholders in the health and other corporate organizations to assist government in attaining Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) three.

The goal talks about reducing maternal mortality rate to seventy (70) per hundred thousand (100,000) live births.

According to him, Ghana needs all hands on deck to provide the necessary infrastructure and equipment at the various health facilities in order to achieve that.

Eric Adu-Gyamfi made the call during a handing over ceremony of medical equipment and dedication of a health centre at Antwikrom near Sunyani in the Bono region.

The medical equipment includes three crank hospital beds, two delivery beds, five hospital mattresses, two digital BP monitors.

The rehabilitation included concreting of the Out Patient Department (OPD) area and raising of dwarf walls around it, plastering of dilapidated parts of the building, reinforcement of walls, construction of aprons around the entire building, scraping of rough surfaces, and painting of the entire interior, exterior parts of the building as well as painting of the staff quarters.

Mr. Adu-Gyamfi explained the entire project, which cost the Rotary Club of Sunyani East an amount of GH¢65,352 was aimed at providing quality maternal care to pregnant women in the area.

“Antwikrom Health Centre was adopted by the Rotary Club of Sunyani East as its fifth (5th) year Anniversary project in 2018.

“The reasons were that, in the health delivery system, Antwikrom is strategically located on this long stretch of road as a key point to access emergency and basic first aid in the case of an accident or road carnage,” he said.

He commended the Rotary Foundation and its partners in the Rotary Club of Nanaiamo Oceanside for making some funds available to support the project.

Sunyani Municipal Director of Health Services, Dr Mrs Appiah Mensah, said, Antwikrom health centre had not seen any rehabilitation since its construction twenty-one (21) years ago, therefore “the gesture by Rotary Club of Sunyani East was in order”.

She, however, appealed to other organizations to emulate what the Club had done and get more health facilities in the Sunyani municipality upgraded.

For her part, Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive, Justina Owusu Banahene, said the exploits of the Rotary Club of Sunyani East in development communities cannot be overemphasized.

She charged the people of Antwikrom to patronize the services of the refurbished health centre in order to justify the investment made by the Rotary Club. The MCE further implored workers at the health centre to make good use of the facility whilst maintaining the medical equipment well.
