Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, who were prized with Best Rap Album, admit to Kendrick Lamar, "you got robbed," at the 2014 Grammy awards.
The majority of fans seemed to have been shocked by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' dominance in the rap category at the 2014 Grammys, especially the duo winning Best Rap Album.
Many believed the rightful winner was Compton newcomer Kendrick Lamar's debut 'Good Kid, M.A.A.D City,' and another person who agreed with the masses was Macklemore himself.
The rapper, whose real name is Ben Haggerty, took to Instagram shortly after the award ceremony and posted a screenshot of a text message he sent to fellow nominee Kendrick Lamar.
"You got robbed," the message began. "I wanted you to win. You should have. It's weird and sucks that I robbed you."
Adding, "I was gonna say that during the speech. Then the music started playing during my speech, and I froze."
The 30 year-old's caption of the image was equally as apologetic , as it read, "My text to Kendrick after the show. He deserved best rap album."
"I'm honored and completely blown away to win anything much less 4 Grammys," he continued. "But in that category, he should have won."
Macklemore also paid homage to his fans, thanking them for all their support, and thought performing 'Same Love' on stage was "The greatest honor of all."
The Seattle duo also took home the awards for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance, which angered die-hard hip-hop fans as they took to twitter to voice their disgust in voters picking the pair over the work of Kanye West, Jay Z, Drake and Kendrick Lamar.
The 'Thrift Shop' singers were nominated for a total of seven awards so it was expected for them to be prized with at least one or more Grammys, but many of the general public didn't anticipate their clean sweep in the rap category.
