The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) is set to conduct the second trail census in preparation for the 2020 Population and Housing census on Monday, November 25, 2019.
In a press release issued on Monday, the service indicated that Aowin Municipality in the Western North Region, Ekumfi District in the Central Region, Kpone Katamanso Municipality in the Greater Accra Region and the Krachi Nchumuru District in the Oti Region are the districts selected for the piloting.
“The Trial Census Night will be the midnight of Sunday, November 24, 2019, and the actual field enumeration will begin from Monday 25th of November to 7th December 2019,” the press read.
The Population and Housing Census is a statistical operation that takes detailed information of every single individual found within the borders of Ghana at a particular point in time usually referred to as the Census night.
Information collected is to help in decision making at all levels of governance and can be used by industries and academia.
GSS has been mandated by the Statistical Service Law, 2019 (Act 1003) to conduct Population and Housing Census in Ghana every 10 years in the month of March.
The Statistical Service further urged residents within the selected communities to cooperate with the census officials in order to ensure a successful Trial Census.
“Note that Census Officials from GSS appropriately identified will start visiting the communities that have been selected for the Trial Census to identify and number houses and structures.”
“They will also ask a few questions like the use of the structure and the number of household resident in the structure etc, in preparation for the actual enumeration from 25th November 2019,” the press stated.
