The Deputy Minister of Local Government Rural Development and Environment (LGRD&E), Alhaji Ahmed Yirimia, has assured
the people of Manya Krobo that government had set up a committee to look into the slashing of some Krobo villages to form part of other districts.
In response to an appeal made by the Konor of the Manya Krobo Traditional area, Nene Sackite II, the deputy Minister made it clear that government was determined in solving that issue for the people of Manya-Krobo to develop
their potential.
According to the Konor, at the onset of modern local government concept, they expected that Manya-Krobo would be given three representations at the National Parliament based on its land area and population.
He said contrary to that expectation, “as many as 60 Manya-Krobo villages were slashed off to form Yilo, Fanteakwa and Asuogyaman districts and that had adversely affected us,” he stressed.
Addressing the Chiefs and people of Manya-Krobo on Friday at Asesewa to officially inform them of the creation of the Upper-Manya Krobo district, Alhaji Yirimia, said the creation of the district was for rapid and even development.
He called on Krobo’s to support the government because it had instituted many interventions such as the NHIS and the Capitation Grant that had alleviated the plight of the rural Krobo.
According to the deputy Minister, hopefully, the new district would be inaugurated in March this year, but it would share resources with the mother district until such time that they would have their own allocation.
Alhaji Yirimia used the occasion to explain various government policies such as levies on petroleum products, adding that without such levies, developmental projects such as roads would be difficult to construct.
Later, he was led by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr David Sackitey-Asare to inspect a former Oil-Palm processing factory at Asesewa to be temporarily used as the administration block for the new district.
