The district magistrate’s court at Twifo Praso on Friday granted bail totalling GH¢25,000 to five suspected mobile phone snatchers.
The five were being tried for conspiracy, stealing, threat of death, resisting arrest and carrying offensive weapons.
Kwame Danso, Kwaw Arthur, Kwame Osei, Yaw Akyirem and Kwame Sakyi, all pleaded guilty. They would reappear on Friday February 1, 2008.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector George Okine, told the court, presided over by Mr Seth Bio Nyamekye, that on December 29, 2007, One Mr Oliver and his friends were returning from a night club in Twifo Praso and on their way home at about 0400 hours, Kwame Danso and his accomplices snatched Mr Acquah’s mobile phone at knife point.
He said the next day Danso was spotted at a restaurant in Praso and was arrested.
The court heard that on hearing about the arrest of their colleague, Danso’s accomplices armed themselves with knives and threatened to kill one Mr Arthur, for causing the arrest of their colleague.
