The Upper West Regional Secretariat of Ghana Private Road Transport (GPRTU) of Trades Union Congress (TUC) on Monday sacked a seven-member Executive of the Nadowli GPRTU for the failure to pay their monthly dues for two consecutive years.
Subsequently, a five-member interim management committee made up of Attah Nwingille, chairman, Abu Kansaga, Vice Chairman, Andrews Dakubo, First Trustee, Issah Mamuda, second Trustee and Gregory Nanguri, Secretary has been sworn-in to manage affairs until elections were held for all the positions of the branch.
Mr. Nuhu Mahama, Regional Industrial Relations Officer of GPRTU who inaugurated the Committee said payment of dues to the regional secretariat was compulsory for every branch and those who failed to honour such obligations were not supposed to head such offices.
He warned them not to allow themselves to be used by politicians for their parochial gains, but to play their neutral role as a transport organization to justify the confidence reposed in them over the years.
Mr. Mahama commended the government for constructing and tarring a lot of roads in the region and appealed for the completion of Tinga-Bamboi road which was the only portion left untarred on the Wa-Kumasi trunk road.
Wing Commander Eric Dakurah, (rtd) Nadowli District Chief Executive said GPRTU had over the years, played a tremendous role in transporting passengers, patients and by employing a lot of people as drivers, Porters and Clerks and urged them to honour their tax obligations that would enable the government to generate more funds for the development of the country.
He also warned them against excessive speeding, overloading, and disrespect to traffic and driving regulations.
Mallam Mohammud Iddrisu, Regional Chairman of GPRTU wondered why the Nadowli Branch had 20 loading points and yet could not honour their financial obligations and urged all branches to work hard for them to achieve their goals.Source: GNA
