Etse Nusetor, an unemployed man at Kade who specialized in stealing sheep and goats that he strangled and took to Accra for sale, has been sentenced to two years in prison in hard labour by the Asamankese Circuit court.
He pleaded guilty and was additionally ordered to pay a fine of GH¢ 200 or to serve one more year in jail.
Police Inspector F. A. Cobbina told the court that Nusetor frequently boarded Accra-bound vehicles with sacks and people suspected the sacks might contain “dead animals like goats and sheep”.
They informed the police and on January 05 he arrived at the Kade lorry station to board an Accra bound bus with a sack.
The police waited for the vehicle at the toll bridge over River Birim at Adankrono and when the sack was opened it was found to contain the carcasses of a goat and a sheep.
He told police that he caught the animals on a street at Abodan, near Kade and strangled them.
