Kwasi Sarkodie Tenkorang, a 22-year-old draughtsman has been fined GH¢360 by the Juaso Circuit Court presided over by Mr. Jacob Boon for assaulting a public officer.
He was also ordered to sign a GH¢2000 bond to be of good behaviour for 12 months or serve 6 months prison terms in default.
He pleaded guilty to three counts of assault on public officer, resisting arrest and escaping from lawful custody.
Police Sergeant Emmanuel Atatsi told the court that on January a member of the Community Protection Unit who was on patrol duty together with some colleagues met the convict who accused him of starring at him.
This triggered an argument between the two and in the course of it the Tenkorang hit the complainant in the face with a stone and slapped him.
The complainant made a complaint at the Juansah Police Station and some police men were detailed to arrest the Tenkorang but he resisted, compelling the officer to apply force.
While taking his statement at the station, the accused jumped over a wall and took to his heels but he was pursued and arrested.Source: GNA
