The Secretary General of the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA), Bawah Fuseini is facing the wrath of the National Sports Authority (NSA) for leading the elections process of the GAA last year.
The NSA has set up a three-man inquest team led by Saka Acquaye to get Bawah to explain why he should not be sacked as a staff of the sports umbrella body in the country. He will appear before the committee later today, February 18, 2020, at the media centre of the Accra Sports Stadium.
Bawah, Secretary General of the GAA, doubles as Principal Sports Development Officer of the sports authority, but he is alleged to have disrespected the NSA by not contacting the Technical Department of the Authority to organise the GAA elections in August 2019.
Staff of the NSA are representatives of the Authority in the various sports federations, and as such, Bawah neglected his representative role which serves the interest of the NSA, according to Joy Sports sources.
Director General of the NSA, Professor Peter Twumasi in a letter in August 2019 announced the removal of Fuseini as NSA representative and appointed Rafik Arthur as his replacement to serve as Secretary General for the GAA.
The GAA rejected Arthur's appointment, insisting it was contrary to its constitution.
Bawah proceeded to organise the elections in Tamale, and his employers - the NSA - say he disrespected the Director General and should offer an explanation why his services should not be terminated.
Sources close to Fuseini claim no wrongdoing in the elections, as it was constitutional.
The GAA voted Professor Francis Dodoo for a third tenure.
