The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has called off its planned nationwide strike scheduled for March 3, 2014 over delays in resolving some imbalance in their salaries.

This follows efforts by the National Labour Commission (NLC) to spearhead the terms to get the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) pay them their conversion differences.

The intended strike was necessitated by the delay in payment of the conversion differences after the doctors were migrated onto the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS).

The doctors who expressed disappointment about how the issue was being handled, accused the two state bodies of conspiring to rob them.

Deputy General Secretary, Dr. Justice Yankson in an interview with CitiNews said they will monitor the efforts by the NLC keenly to get what is due them.

He disclosed that the Ministers of Employment and Health have also held several discussions with the GMA to get their grievances addressed.

“One big step has been taken by both Ministers and the National Labour Commission so all possible threat of a strike is not going to happen” he added.

Dr. Justice Yankson assured that all doctors will be at post on March 3.
