An Accra High Court will on Friday, February 22, rule on a contempt application filed against Mr. David Sakitey, District Chief Executive of the Manya Krobo District Assembly.The court, presided over Mr. Justice Nicolas M.C Abodakpi, fixed the date after listening to arguments from defence counsels on Monday.According to Nene Teye Titriku I, the Chief of Akuse, Mr. Sakitey allegedly commented on a suit currently pending before the High Court to declare Akuse as part of the Dangme West District Assembly.In a motion praying the court to cite the DCE for contempt, Nene Titriku I contended that Mr. Sakitey in the October 26, edition of the Daily Graphic stated that Akuse belonged to Many Krobo District Assembly.The statement, the plaintiff said rubbished the ongoing suit in which more than 30 applicants were challenging the demarcation of Akuse as part of the Manya Krobo District Assembly.However Mr. Sakitey, has denied Nene Titriku’s claim saying that he was making reference to facts as contained in the various documents to impress upon the people of Manya to endeavour to co-exist peacefully.An affidavit in support of motion for contempt deposed by Nene Titriku said after the publication he (the chief) and the applicants in the substantive suit wrote to Mr. Sakitey to refute the publication but he ignored it.Mr. Sakitey in affidavit in opposition denied that being contemptuous towards the court adding the application was without merit, incompetent, improper and it should be dismissed.Mr. Akwasi Amoako Adjei, Counsel for Mr. Sakitey stated further that the applicant had failed to lead evidence to show defiance hence the application had failed.Captain Nkrabeah Effah Dartey (rtd) is representing Nene Titriku.Source: GNA
