The Asamankese Circuit court has sentenced a mechanic based in Tema, Bernard Ofei to two years in prison for attacking a female trader and stealing her mobile phone and GH¢55 at Kade.
In addition, Ofei who pleaded not guilty to the charge, was fined GH¢200 or in default, serve an additional one year.
Giving the facts of the case, Chief inspector H.D. Bruce said, Ofei during a visit to his mother at Kade on June 11, last year, attacked the complainant, Grace Appiah, who was going home after closing from her store at about 2200 hours in the company of her husband Richard Appiakorang.
Ofei, who was with two other accomplices, now at large, collected the trader’s handbag containing a ladies wrist watch, mobile phone and cash of GH¢55.
The complainant, who was surprised at the attack, because she knew Ofei very well, flashed her torchlight on the face of the accused and asked him why he was attacking her.
Ofei hit the chin of the complainant with a big stone and collected the bag from her.
In the husband’s attempt to rescue the wife, one of the accomplices, who could not be identified held the husband and assaulted him.
The three of them managed to escape into the darkness with the ladies hand bag.
A report was made to the police and Ofei was later arrested.
