Two-time UEFA Champion's League winning Coach Ottmar Hitzfeld will visit Ghana, Between April 1 and 3, through the facilitation of Ringier Ghana Limited.
Hitzfeld, who is well-known amongst Ghanaians for Coaching greats like Samuel Osei Kuffour and Opoku Nti, is expected to participate in some activities including interacting with fans and sharing his rich experiences.
Hitzfeld who is the current coach of Switzerland, was named Coach of the year by FIFA in 1997 and 2001 and also led won seven Bundesliga titles - five with Bayern Munich and two with Borussia Dortmund. His relationship with Swiss football date back to the late 80 and early 90s when he won the Swiss Cup with Aarau and two Super League titles with Grasshopper FC.
In a release, Tim Kollman, General Manager of Ringier Ghana expressed his delight at the impending visit of the Swiss National Coach “Mr. Hitzfeld has a long relationship with Ghana through his job, even though he has never visited Ghana.
He is very excited to be making this trip and he hopes to meet up with his former players, and also interact with fellow World Cup coach, Kwesi Appiah.” Coach Hitzfeld, with interact with Coaches and Team Managers of the Premier League Clubs in Ghana on Tuesday April 1, 2014 after which he will be joined by sports fans to view a UEFA Champion's League game at the Silverbird Cinema.
The official Launch comes off at the Accra Polo Court on Wednesday April 2, 2014. He will also make a donation to a grassroots football charity in Nima the same day after which a farewell cocktail will be held in his honour at the residence of the Swiss Ambassador to Ghana.
The statement also indicated that Coach Ottmar Hitzfeld will be accompanied by some Senior Executives of Ringier AG, and Swiss Journalists on the historic trip to Ghana.
