The Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Mohammed Amin Adam Anta says traditional leaders in Dagbon should relinquish their leadership titles if they cannot control their followers. He says the disturbances that have engulfed the region could be due to the negligence of the leaders.According to him some traditional leaders instigated the youth to engage in violent crimes. He was speaking on the recent crisis in which a number of houses were burnt in some communities in the region.Mr Amin Anta said the government has passed a law to arrest chiefs who fuel conflict advising that chiefs should either maintain peace in their areas of jurisdiction or go to jail.“It is you chiefs the people listen to and do whatever you ask them to do and if you cannot control them , then we can describe that as a calculated attempt to pursue your agenda and we would have no alternative but follow the law”, he noted. He advised chiefs and people of the area to learn to resolve conflicts peacefully without resorting to violence. The Tamale MCE lamented the colossal sum of money that was being spent on maintaining security in the region saying that money could have been used to undertake development projects to benefit the people.Source: The Ghanaian Observer
