The electoral alliance between the People’s National Convention (PNC) and the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) is not a done deal, contrary to claims of a sealed agreement by the CPP.
The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the CPP which is the highest decision making body of the party is yet to be briefed on the terms and conditions of the proposed alliance.
The Acting General Secretary of the PNC, Abraham Kaba, made these revelations in an interview with Joy News.
Mr Kaba said a NEC meeting is scheduled for Wednesday 21 May at the which party kingpins would either accept or reject the deal.
In earlier interviews with Joy News, however, CPP flag bearer, Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom told Joy News the CPP and the PNC are up in an alliance that would boost the fortunes of the parties in the December polls, both in the presidential and parliamentary streams.
The deal would see Dr Nduom as flag bearer with Dr Edward Mahama as running mate.
Some party executives have however been opposed to the deal describing it as unconstitutional.
Mr Kaba said the PNC is yet to settle on either a merger or an alliance with the CPP.
He said executives of the PNC had only been tasked at the party’s national delegates’ congress to enter into talks with the CPP in relation to either a merger or an alliance, adding, “there is no completion as such.”
