The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has dismissed assertions that the party is taking on a violent character.
Reports have lately been circulating in the media about growing tension within various constituencies as the NPP draws closer to the end of its primaries.
Some of the areas have witnessed violent protests with the worst being in Bekwai in the Ashanti Region, where members of the incumbent contesting in the party's primaries clashed last week resulting in the arrest of some 15 people.
In an interview with Joy News however, the National Chairman of the NPP, Mr Peter Mac Manu rebuffed such notions about the party describing the Bekwai incident as an exceptional one.
“We take the Bekwai case as an isolated case and so if anybody wants to brand the NPP as a violent party, I refuse to accept that,” Mr Mac Manu stated.
He said the NPP had been able to hold over 200 primaries without a dint of mayhem, and described as unfair for such allegations being triggered against the party.
