The Electoral Commission is to embark on a revision of the voters register from Friday, June 20, 2014 to Sunday June 29, 2014.
The revision is a limited voter registration intended to offer Ghanaians who have attained the voting age of 18 years since the last registration in 2012 and those who were above 18 years but could not, for various reasons, register as voters in 2012 the opportunity to register now.
The registration will take place from 7:00am to 6:00pm each day of the registration period, including Saturdays and Sundays, at designated centres in all electoral areas throughout the country.
A statement issued by the EC and signed by Deputy Chair, Sule Amadu, said the selected centres will be published in the national newspapers before the commencement of the registration. Prospective applicants are advised to check the newspapers for the registration centres in their electoral areas.
The statement further indicated that applicants will be required to "show proof of eligibility by tendering any of the following identification documents; Ghanaian passport, National Identification Card, a driver’s licence, National Health Insurance Card or the old voter ID card (in the case of persons who were registered voters before the replacement of the voters register in 2012)".
"Applicants who do not have any of the identification documents listed above are required to find two people who are already registered as voters to complete documents to guarantee their registration".
The Commission however cautioned the public against double registration which "will be detected through the matching of fingerprints in the database".
