Outgoing Upper West Regional Minister, Bede Anwotaazuma Ziedeng has condemned Thursday's destructive act by some unidentified youth of the National Democratic Congress over what they called disrespectful reshuffle done by president Mahama last Sunday.
Describing the incident as unfortunate and regrettable, Mr. Ziedeng said the action of the irate youth is not something that neither he nor his deputy (Abu Kansangabata) or the regional secretariat of the party endorsed.
‘‘We want to make it clear; we have disassociated ourselves from this action which has taken place in the region,’’ he added.
Mr. Ziedeng was accompanied to the three offices that had posters of Mahama, Wa Central Member of Parliament, Rashid Pelpuo and the party completely defaced with red paint.
Deputy outgoing minister, Abu Kansangabata stated that in a democracy, the irate youth has every right to disagree with the president but that should be done with utmost respect and decorum.
‘‘We may not necessary be happy with him and we may not necessary be happy with what he has done but think that we must still accord him the respect as the president of the country".
"If you have to express a different opinion either than of the president, it must be decorous, I will not endorse any action which turned to reduce the esteem and image of the president,’’ he stressed.
Mr. Ziedeng calls on supporters to exercise restraint to "enable the president to carry his assignment after all it was the same president who appointed them and they were applauding".
The Upper West region in its thirty one year history has produced 18 regional ministers and 8 of them coming in the last five years which residents say is an affront to the region's poor rate of development.
