A group calling itself “Concerned Serial Callers Association” in the Ashanti Region, has deplored the increasing use of abusive language on radio stations in Kumasi, especially during phone-in programmes. The group has therefore, called for decorum by people who called in to radio stations in order not to jeopardize the current peace in the country. In a statement issued in Kumasi on Tuesday, the group explained that its members who were from various political parties used the airwaves to contribute to national issues to enrich the country’s democratic dispensation. The statement was jointly signed by Mr Robert Addai, Acting Chairman of the group; Patrick Mayeilah, Acting Vice Chairman and Osei Samuel Shiffman, Acting Secretary. “We have observed with regret that for the past months utterances and contributions from some callers during phone-ins, especially on political issues, are becoming more of insults in lieu of educating and criticizing constructively”. The group condemned and disassociated itself from what it described as unspeakable, irresponsible and inflammatory pronouncements from sections of the public “in no uncertain terms”. While calling on radio hosts not to entertain such irresponsible and unwarranted comments on the airwaves, the group appealed to political party leaders to eschew insults, violence and the use of irritating and inflammatory words when they mount political platforms.
