Right Reverend Professor Emmanuel Asante, Presiding Bishop-elect of the Methodist Church, Ghana, has advised politicians against vain promises as the nation gears towards the December presidential and parliamentary elections.
He said unfulfilled promises cast doubts on the minds of the electorates and also have disastrous effects on the country’s socio-economic development.
Rt Rev Prof Asante was preaching at the 25th anniversary celebration of the Ebenezer Methodist Church Men’s Fellowship at Bantama in Kumasi on Sunday.
The theme for the anniversary was, “The Role of the Men, Its Impact on the Church and Society”.
The Presiding Bishop-elect said “it is easier to say than perform” noting that politicians should make sure their actions match their words.
Rt Rev Prof Asante said the men’s fellowship has been the bedrock of the church since they have made greater impact on the growth and expansion of the church, adding, they should be role models for the family and society.
He urged the fellowship members to exhibit good morals to impact on others if they live for Christ as they claim.
They should also take good care of their children and family, since a child’s development depended on the parents and society.
The men’s fellowship should also work towards church unity, to bring about growth in Methodism, he added.
Evangelist Charles Mensah, immediate-past National President of the Association of Methodist Men’s Fellowships, commended the Bantama fellowship for 25 years of dedicated service to the church, and stressed the need for rekindling the spirit of friendship among the members.
He said the Bantama branch is the pace-setter and can still do more to uplift the image of the fellowship.
Mr Asare Yeboah, Kumasi Diocesan Chairman of the fellowship, said the impact of the Bantama men’s fellowship is felt in the diocese with regard to the nursing of branches of the association, which stands at 71.
Evangelist Mensah on behalf of the Bantama branch presented citations to seven founding members for their meritorious services to the fellowship to mark the silver jubilee.
They are Mr James Oppong, Mr Kingsley Yaw Boateng, Mr T.Y. Opoku, Mr Alexander Asare Duah, Mr I.K. Danquah, Mr A.M. Aggrey and Mr Michael Opoku.
Over 3,470 Ghana cedis was realized following an appeal for funds.
