Professor Jophus Anamuah-Mensah, an educationist, has stressed the need to combine effectively spiritual education and academic endeavours to help raise a generation of youth who were God-fearing, disciplined and patriotic to the country’s socio-economic development. He made the call at the matriculation of Christian Service University College (CSUC) in Kumasi at the weekend. About 643 students were admitted to pursue four-year under graduate programmes in Communication Studies, Theology, Computer Science and Business Administration. Professor Anamuah-Mensah, former Vice Chancellor of University of Education, Winneba noted that Ghana was in spiritual crisis that required spiritual solutions, and commended authorities of the university for the inroads being made to train the Ghanaian youth. He pointed out that when universities in the country were turning out brilliant and intelligent students but morally and spiritually bankrupt, despite the increase in number of churches, CSUC was gaining grounds. Professor Anamuah-Mensah appealed to Ghanaians to be tolerant of divergent views and listen to each other rather than indulging in conflicts during Election 2008. Professor Emmanuel Frempong, President of CSUC, advised the students to abide by the rules and regulations of the university in their activities. He said the university had 1,584 students representing an increase of 24 per cent over that of 2007/2008 academic year, with women constituting about 45 per cent.
