The Pumpkins Foundation, in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES) has launched its 2014 Pumpkins Charity Festival in Accra to raise funds for the Tupaa M.A Primary School in the Ga South district.

Themed: "Kids Helping Kids", this year’s event will raise funds for the construction of a six-classroom block, a resource centre, a library, educational materials as well as a toilet facility.

The Tupaa primary school is a deprived community near Obom in the Greater Accra region.

The foundation seeks to empower children to be agents of change and support other children in need as well as their communities through education, health and basic human needs.

Pumpkins adopted the Tupaa Community as part of its social intervention strategies to support the educational needs of deprived children and their communities.

Among activities planned for the festival is a charity fair dubbed: “Shop for Charity”. It will run  between 27th and 28th of September, 2014 at the Alisa Hotels in Accra.

On dislpay will be educational materials, kids and adults fashion, electronics, kids grooming - hair, nails and makeup, food stands and more.

Executive Director of the foundation, Baisiwa Dowuona-Hammond said this year’s charity event was expected to reaffirm the foundation's desire to have dedicated support for deprived children and education in rural communities across the country.

“We set out to make an impact on poor and vulnerable kids and their environment and already, the signs are good. We hope our partners will help us to move to the next level as we progress.”

She also challenged individuals and corporate institutions to support the cause of giving children a better chance in life.

Moreover, the foundation has been working with a number of local and international partners including the Africa Youth Exchange, the Ghana Health Service and the Pediatric Society of Ghana, on a wide range of child related issues.

A Fund Raising Dinner to auction art works put together by basic and senior high school students will be held on the 11th of October, 2014 in Accra.
