The giants from the Volta Region, Havedzi Mighty Warriors saw off a fierce challenge from rivals and defending champions Keta Sunset Sports to win the third edition Cal Bank Beach Soccer League for the first time.
The two sides had been at each other’s neck all season, level on points for a greater part of the campaign. But it was Havedzi who finally emerged from under the shadows of the nemesis defeating them 2-1 in a gruel some game to be the first team other than Sunset Sports to annex the gong. The joy did not end there for the Warriors as captain Innocent Kumensah was named player of the tournament shrugging off competition from goal king Michael Sema of Sunset sports.
East Legon Sharks wrapped up their superb campaign with a three all draw against Teshie United to finish third on the log with debutants Gulf Powers wrapping up the top four following their electrifying displays in their first season in the top flight of Ghana beach soccer.
For the second consecutive season the runners -up from the previous season were caught up in the relegation web, Ada Assurance in very much Tegbi Youth-esque dropped to the lower tier of the Ghana beach soccer league together with the first timers Nima BSC. The duo tipped at the start of the season to break the dominance of the Volta based teams failed to live up to the hype and even more surprising occupied the bottom of the log.
Their places will be taken by Division one league Champions Nungua United who made a quick comeback to the top tier after being demoted last year and Golden Eagles who finished in second place.
The players will now wait with bated breath as the Technical committee prepares to name stand out performers who will be part of the national team as they gear to make a mark in the Coppa Lagos in December.
