The School Feeding Programme needs more money if it is to be sustained.
The amount of money required by the programme was not approved when the government laid its budget for the year.
Out of the GH¢63 million required, only GH¢ 17 million was approved by government.
The Local Government Minister, Joseph Yiele Chireh told Joy News the government was working to improve the administration of the programme as a measure to regain foreign funding.
The School Feeding Programme was funded by the Dutch Government but pulled out following an audit report that indicated there was widespread corruption had bedeviled its management.
Mr. Chireh noted everything would be done to continue the feeding programme.
The situation is challenging the government’s resolve to feed about 800, 000 children under the SFP.
He said the reduction of government funding makes it imperative to explore foreign funding seriously.
Mr. Chireh did not rule out the possibility of cutting back on the number of pupils targeted to be covered by the programme.
He however is optimistic external funding could be secured in good time to prevent the government resorting to that last decision.
